Staying in Korat – BaanKuer

February 10, 2013

The number of hotels in Nakhon Ratchasima is very limited. Or better said, the ones that have an English website is very limited. For tourists who want to spend a few days in Nakhon Ratchasima it can therefor be troublesome to find a decent place to stay. At least, that was the problem I had last September when I was there and needed a place stay.

When doing a google search you will end up with some nice hotels, but most of them are quite far away from the place I wanted to stay. The only hotel which was on the right location was the V-One hotel which is some sort of boutique hotel. While the rooms look nice, the rest of the hotel gives me the impression they just built some facilities to check a box on a list. For example, the pool just seems big enough for 2 persons and the fitness is about the same size. While I have no doubts this is a nice hotel to stay, I was looking for something a bit cheaper.

So the search continued and ended with a smaller hotel, that was less of a boutique hotel. The three weeks I was in Nakhon Ratchasima I stayed in “BaanKuer”, a hotel located closely to the V-one hotel. Well, closely? It is a bit away from the main road, but you can easily walk it from the V-one hotel.

To get to BaanKuer take the smaller street on the other side of the road as the V-one hotel is located. At the entrance of the street is a yellow sign with the name of the hotel (in Thai).

After going into this street you have to make a right at the third side-street. Several signs will tell you the exact location to go left.

BaanKuer is not just a hotel, it is also a spa, a restaurant, a coffeeshop, and a snooker hall. This is one of the main reasons why I stayed here. After a good night of sleep you can always grap something to eat at the restaurant or get a decent cup of coffee. While I do not play snooker, I did notice the snooker hall was always crowded. Even in the early morning or the late evening.

The rooms come at a price of 500 baht for a standard room per night (September 2011) which is about 12 euros per night.

CONCLUSION:

If you are looking for a decent place to stay in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) I can recommend BaanKuer. For a price of only 500 baht a night you have a decent hotel room which is cleaned daily. There is a fridge, air-conditioning, hot water, and TV with three English channels. And, not unimportant, there is free internet because of an unsecured router hosted by BaanKuer. Just across the road you can find a very good restaurant, coffee shop, and massage place.

Only downside to this hotel is the target audience. While it is not a short-time hotel (a hotel where you rent a room per hour to have “fun” with your mistress), it is also not far from it. Two hotels on the other side of the road a short-time hotels recognizable by the curtains in front of the parking spaces. So if you try to impress your wife or girlfriend, this hotel will not make much of an impression.
